What is HR 676? What is Just Health Care?
H.R. 676 is the National Health Insurance Act that would guarantee health care for all residents of the United States by eliminating private insurance companies and HMOs.
H.R. 676 was introduced by Rep. John Conyers in 2003. A full list of cosponors, the full text of the bill and more information about H.R. 676 is available at the House website: H.R. 676 mainpage.
Just Health Care is the Labor Party’s proposal for national health care for all. The Just Health Care funding proposal was adapted for use in H.R. 676.
In November 2000, the Alachua County Labor Party got a non-binding refrendum put on the Alachua County ballot asking voters if they supported a system of universal health care in Florida — like the kind laid out in the Just Health Care Proposal.
64.5% of Alachua County voters voted YES on the referendum. It passed in all (at the time) 53 precincts and got more votes than either Al Gore or George Bush in Alachua County.
Since then the Alachua County Labor Party has led the campaign locally for national health care and taken an active role in the national campaign to pass H.R. 676, the National Health Insurance Act.
During the filming of “SICKO”, Michael Moore sent a film crew to Gainesville to interview residents about their experiences with health care in other countries. Moore sent the crew down after receiving a DVD of the Citizen’s Congressional Healthcare Hearing the Labor Party held on July 8, 2006 at the Thelma Boltin Center in Gainesville, FL.
